Mid Shore Meals ’til Monday Receives Outstanding Partner Award (VIDEO)

The Maryland Food Bank works with more than 330 incredible and passionate Network Partners statewide to help expand access to nutritious food while opening pathways out of hunger for more Marylanders.

It’s Hunger Action Month, and at our recent Hunger Action Symposium: Causing Change, we had the opportunity to recognize one partner in each of the five regions we serve (Western, Northern, Baltimore City, Southern, and the Eastern Shore) with “Outstanding Partner” Awards.

In this second of five blog posts, you’ll learn about the great work of Cambridge’s Mid Shore Meals ‘til Monday and Sandy Hill Elementary School on the Eastern Shore.

Sandy Hill Elementary is an MFB partner, serving the Cambridge community in Dorchester County. This partner has been feeding schoolchildren since 2018 but have recently expanded to care for older adults and families in response to growing needs. They also work closely with Mid-Shore Meals ‘til Monday (MMTM) to ensure kids have enough to eat when they are not able to access food at school in the evenings and on weekends.

“Over the past 5-years, Mid-Shore Meals ‘til Monday’s heartfelt dedication has helped to feed Dorchester County children and their families, providing more than 700,000 meals so that no child goes hungry over the weekend,” said Jennifer Small, MFB’s Regional Program Director, Eastern Shore

In addition to year-round food pantry access and robust Weekend Backpack/Overnight Food offerings (1,000 backpacks/week from MMTM), this partnership hosts Farmer’s Markets in Vienna so families can access highly nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables.

“We’re deeply grateful for this partnership with the Maryland Food Bank. So many times people picking up food will tell us ‘You don’t know what a difference this makes,’ while everyone in this room knows exactly what a difference it makes.”
